Un Canto a Mi Tierra Video Shoot
Behind the scenes of the ‘Un Canto a Mi Tierra’ Video shoot.
I’d been intrigued to visit the relatively nearby pacific coast of Colombia since I first moved out to Cali, but had never really had the time or motive to do so. Despite a few trips to buy fish from Buenaventura’s central Galeria (Avoiding the offerings of Guagua & Armadillo!) I hadn’t had chance to venture further up or down the coast. Buenaventura, just over 2 and a half hours by car from Cali is home to people with roots from all up and down the pacific coast. It’s port, with stacks of rusting containers in multicoloured piles & the odd army boat zipping in and out of the choppy waters by their side, is a hub of activity. It is from this bay that all kinds of small, fiber glass boats ship coastal residents to and from their homes & the outside world.
On the completion of recording the song ‘Un Canto A Mi Tierra’ with singer Nidia Gongora, myself & Brian Cross from Mochilla Productions spoke with her about visiting her home town of Timbiqui to record a video to accompany the song. And, it was only a few months later that I found myself pulling into the port of Buenaventura’s bustling car park with my Wife, Nidia, & Mochilla’s Brian Cross & Eric Coleman, all in a car jam packed full of cases & equipment. What followed was a short but enthralling trip to a part of world that none of us had ever seen. It was hard to imagine that this production was made in little over 2 days.
Here are a few photos from our time there, hope you enjoy them.
