A1 - Magdalena (Extended Version)
A2 - Magdalena (Acoustic Version)

AA1 - Look Around The Corner (Simbad Gospel Remix)
AA2 - Magdalena (Behling & Simpson Remix)

N.B - On the vinyl, AA2 reads 'Look Around The Corner' but should read 'Magdalena'.

“Magdalena” is the second single from the ‘Look Around The Corner’ album by Quantic and Alice Russell with the Combo Bárbaro, which came out in April on Tru Thoughts to widespread radio and press support, including BBC 6Music Album of the Day, and official 6Music Playlisting for the first single and title track.

Quantic and Alice Russell toured the album with the Combo Bárbaro, to sell-out crowds throughout the UK, Europe, US and beyond; and performed live radio sessions for Jamie Cullum (BBC R2); Lauren Laverne (BBC 6Music); Robert Elms (BBC London); FIP, France Inter, KCRW and many more in the UK and internationally.

This second single release now highlights popular album cut “Magdalena”, which melds an irresistible soulful stomp with vibrant folkloric influences and a singalong feel. The lead track is joined by a treasure trove of remixes and exclusives, putting a new spin on this music for the first time and exploring its classic, genre-crossing appeal.

Buzzy producers Behling & Simpson bring a deep, stripped back disco house reworking of “Magdalena”, alongside cutting edge re-imaginings of the same track by Tru Thoughts stable-mates Hint and Anchorsong. Two highly anticipated Simbad mixes of the hit “Look Around The Corner” explore a gospel tip and an acid dub flavour. Also featured here are two exclusive alternate versions of “Magdalena” - the Extended Version and the Acoustic Version.

The full colour 12” sleeve includes four tracks on vinyl, and a bonus CD featuring all 10 tracks, including the “Magdalena” Instrumental and A Cappella versions, making it an absolutely essential record for DJs and home listening alike. The official “Magdalena” video will be launched in the lead-up to the single release.

‘Look Around The Corner’ was the first full collaborative album from musical soulmates Quantic and Alice Russell, two of the UK’s best loved independent artists and leading lights of the international funk, soul and alternative dance scene. For legions of hopeful fans around the World, this full collaboration was the stuff of dreams; recorded at Quantic’s Sonido del Valle studio in Cali, Colombia, it mixes sweet soul and blues with overtones of folk and gospel, and the inimitable swing of Quantic's world-renowned outfit the Combo Bárbaro who form the core band.

Since the release of ‘Look Around The Corner’, Quantic has been in the music headlines again with his lauded Ondatrópica project (Soundway); and Alice with her recent single “Heartbreaker”, preceding her fifth solo album due out in February. With growing international fanbases, regular sell-out tours, and coverage across the World’s music and cultural media Quantic and Alice Russell are each well established and prolific artists in their own right. This stunning project has brought their unique talents to the attention of an even wider audience, and the “Magdalena” single continues the story.
