Viche
Viche is an artisanal alcoholic beverage made by Afro-Colombian communities throughout the pacific coastal region of Colombia.
It is produced from the fermentation of a wild variety of sugar cane and is well known for its aphrodisiac effects alongside other varities like Arrechon, Tomaseca & Tumbacatre (Bed Breaker). Each drink has a slightly different method of preparation, some contain duck eggs, condensed milk, some contain herbs and are considered as blessed. Some liken it to Cachaca, some to Mezcal, some don’t liken it at all, they just drink it down and pass the night away with the accompanying sound of Marimba de Chonta. Here are a few brands on sale recently at this years Petronio Alvarez festival.
