One Offs... Remixes and B Sides EP
by Quantic
In the space of just four years, Quantic amassed a huge catalogue of remixes and rareties. This EP brings five of these lost gems together, two of which are exclusive to this release.
Opener ‘Archipelago’ is a downtempo groove, long hidden from Quantic fans. It was previously only available on the MTV Mono mix compilation.
Next up we have Quantic’s mix of ‘Bailalo’ by DJ Angola. Licensed from Nickodemus’ New York label, the heavy Afro influence on this track makes it a sure-fire dancefloor destroyer.
Before Ninja Tune’s Fink reinvented himself as a singer/songwriter par excellence, he had already made quite a name for himself on the underground circuit as an accomplished beat-monger. His version of ‘Blackstone Rock’ transforms the Quantic original into blissed-out dub reggae.
This track is exclusive to the EP.
Next we have the long sought-after Quantic mix of ‘Disco Africa’ by The Ogyatanaa Show Band. Fellow Brighton label Soundway have unearthed some amazing music from Ghana over the past few years – it seems the Ghanaian’s were doing broken beat about 30 years ago!
Originally released as a 7” on Dom Servini’s excellent Wah Wah label, the penultimate track sees Quantic work his magic on Rosie Brown’s ‘Bliss.’
The final track is also exclusive to this EP. Italian producer Paine reworks ‘Not So Blue’ by Quantic. Tom Middleton once said that the original version of this track had one of his favourite hooks of all time. It even ended up being used by Channel 4 to promote their staple Sunday morning hangover shows, Hollyoaks and Popworld!
